Our best tips to help you keep your flowers fresh!

I thought the best topic to get our journal started was flower care, so here are my top tips so you can ensure your blooms stay fresher for longer, bringing joy to your home for days on end.

1. Trim the Stems.
Trim the stems at an angle using sharp scissors or a knife. Cutting the stems at an angle increases the surface area for water absorption, allowing the flowers to stay hydrated more effectively.

2. Remove Foliage.
Remove any foliage that would fall below the waterline in the vase. Leaves submerged in water can promote bacterial growth, leading to a shorter lifespan for your flowers. Trim any excess leaves to keep the water clean and clear.

3. Use Clean Water.
Fill a clean vase with fresh, cold water. Avoid using tap water if it's heavily chlorinated, as this can be detrimental to the flowers. If possible, use filtered or purified water to provide the best environment for your blooms.

4. Change the Water Regularly.
To prevent bacteria buildup, change the water in your vase every two to three days. Before adding fresh water, re-trim the stems at an angle to ensure they can continue to absorb water effectively.

5. Keep Flowers Cool.
Avoid placing your vase of flowers in direct sunlight or near sources of heat such as radiators or appliances. Heat can cause flowers to wilt more quickly. Instead, display them in a cool, shaded area to extend their freshness.

6. Mist the Petals.
Spritzing the petals with water using a spray bottle can help hydrate flowers such as Hydrangeas to keep them looking fresh. However, avoid misting flowers with delicate blooms such as orchids, as this may cause spotting.

7. Prune as Needed.
Remove any wilting or spent flowers from the arrangement as soon as you notice them. This will not only improve the overall appearance of the bouquet but also prevent ethylene gas produced by decaying flowers from accelerating the aging process of the remaining blooms.

8. Enjoy.
Lastly, remember to enjoy the beauty of your flowers while they last, so much goes into growing, sourcing and styling flowers.

If you do have the time please try our tips on flower care as they will help your fresh flowers stay vibrant and beautiful for as long as possible and if you do have any questions please message us as we'd love to hear from you.
